Internal Restructuring and Interior Upgrade Services

Whether its adding a room, moving a wall or just a simple repair, MTP does it all and does it well.

Internal Restructuring and Interior Upgrade Services

Instead of dreaming about moving to a bigger house, make better use of your existing space by re-organising the layout. Simply knocking down some internal walls and shifting windows and doors can create a better flow, more light and a more liveable design. We can help you enhance your property by looking at areas that you can viably change without stretching to the extra cost of a home extension.

Removing a wall

Removing a wall might seem like a simple task but if it is structural and load-bearing, it is more difficult and you will need consent before you start. Getting a building consent is the owner’s responsibility. Don’t ignore this step as it may be discovered at a later date, for example when you decide to sell. If you are considering building work that is close to or involves potentially load-bearing walls, it is important to get professional advice (eg from a professional engineer, registered architect, building consultant or registered building surveyor). We can organise all this for you.

Increasing room size

All new building work must comply with the Building Code, including the structural performance requirements. Also note that on completion of the building work, the altered building must comply with the Building Code to at least the same extent as it did before the building work was undertaken. If you are considering building work that is close to or involves potentially load-bearing walls, it is important to get professional advice (eg from a professional engineer, registered architect, building consultant or registered building surveyor).

Flooring

An exemption to the Building Code allows you to replace or alter any or all of the linings and finishes of walls, ceilings or floors of an existing dwelling (whether single or multi-unit). This exemption does not mean you have to use comparable materials.

Plumbing

All plumbing and drainage work that involves installing new pipes requires a building consent. It must be carried out by a Licensed or Certifying Plumber (or Drainlayer). This is for health reasons – an incorrect plumbing connection could allow a back-flow of polluted water into your drinking water. We can organise a plumber or drainlayer to ensure work to the very highest standard.
