Bathroom Renovation – Design for Functionality

Bathroom Renovation – Design for Functionality
Bathroom renovations are the most common type of renovation for New Zealand homes and for good reason. There is nothing worse than an ugly or nonfunctional bathroom. So, this Waikato home decided to overhaul their bathroom design with a renovation from Maintain To Profit. Everything from the shower and vanity to the tiling and lights. Balance style and Functionality Interior design is one of the most important considerations for any renovation. Picking a style can make or break the success of your bathroom renovation. When it comes to the bathroom, a room of utility, finding a design that lies between style and functionality is key. For this reason, tiles are your friend. Tiles can give texture and colour, but are easy to clean and water resistant. Furthermore, they are very cost effective and last a lifetime with minimal wear. The vanity is another important design choice. The current trend in bathroom design is the floating vanity. These vanities are attached to the wall rather than resting on the floor. Besides the modern look, this design choice offers the advantage of making the space feel bigger. If you have a small bathroom this is a great choice. However, even if your bathroom is large, making the space feel even bigger is never a bad thing and is a smart choice for any bathroom renovation. Attention to detail An incredibly small detail is in the design of the shower. A small shelf was recessed into the wall to give space for soaps etc. Many showers lack this tiny detail but it makes for a world of difference. Maintain To Profit is...

South Waikato Kitchen Renovation

South Waikato Kitchen Renovation
The kitchen is the heart of the home, so it is no wonder it was the first choice for this Waikato homes renovation. People spend most of their day in the kitchen, so it must be functional as well as visually aesthetic. Our client Lisa had a kitchen that was getting outdated and was far too small to do any meaningful cooking. She decided to call Maintain To Profit Waikato South to help her with her kitchen renovation. It all had to go It was decided in the planning phase of this kitchen renovation that the entire kitchen would need to be pulled out and built again from scratch. One thing we identified was the wasted space taken up by the large pantry. We decided to remove the cabinets on the right side of the kitchen and install a new countertop. This effectively doubled the amount of the bench real estate. We were then able to install an integrated stove and oven. This keeps the countertop flat and flush, creating a easy to clean, and visually pleasing environment. The Floor was replaced with wood and the dull grey walls painted white. This significantly changed the atmosphere of the kitchen. Another successful south Waikato kitchen renovation Looking at the before and after they look like completely different homes. It’s so incredible that entire homes can be transformed into something so much greater. This renovation extended throughout the entire home and breathed new life into this home. The property value for this south Waikato home saw a great increase after this kitchen renovation. If you are in the South Waikato region...

A staged reno – St Andrews

A staged reno – St Andrews
A staged reno – St Andrews We appreciate that when you decide to renovate your home there will be some disruption to everyday life! Especially if you decide to completely renovate your home. Sometimes it isn’t an option to move out of the property. Recently, a customer of ours decided she wanted to complete a full renovation of her home – but due to space we organised a staged approach to the renovation to allow her room to move furniture around and gave her a break between each stage. Stage one – This involved the renovation of the bathroom/toilet, master bedroom and spare bedroom. The project during this stage took 4 weeks Stage two – We moved into the lounge and kitchen area. We removed the wooden lining in the lounge area and replaced the raking ceiling with gib, for a paint finish. She designed a whole new kitchen and removed the wall between to the two areas to open up the floorplan. Stage three – Involved refreshing all the outdoor living areas. New decks, a ramp for access, raised flower gardens and new fencing was built. This stage was dependant on weather but was completed quickly within 2 weeks. Adopting a staged approach to renovations is an option when you start planning your project – we are happy to work in with your requirements as we want to provide you with a smooth reno process from start to...

Our renovation process – Bathrooms

Our renovation process – Bathrooms
A majority of the renovation work we do for customers involves some kind of upgrade to a bathroom. Whether you are wanting to simply put in an new acrylic shower and touch up the paint job? Or you want to re-design the floorplan, strip back the linings and possibly tile all walls and floors? Demo phase: Our builders will focus on the demolition stage during the first 1-2 days of the project. If you are moving the position of the shower/vanity or bath this stage enables the builders to pull back the wall linings for the plumber to come in and run their pipework. We do often find evidence of leaks during the demolition stage and if this does happen during your renovation we do make it priority to advise the customer along the way so you know exactly what is happening at every point of the project. Plumber/Electrician: Both these trades are incredibly important, but often aren’t onsite for as long as other trades as they need to work in and around the builder. As you can appreciate there is often limited space in bathrooms so subtrade tend to be booked on separate days/time to allow them the space to get in and get their jobs done efficiently. Stopper/Painter: This stage requires multiple visits to site for both the stopper and the painter – for good reason! They need to apply multiple coats of plaster and paint – which also need to dry and be sanded back. Tiler: Tiling takes the longest amount of time out of all the trades. If you are having a fully tiled shower...

A recent kitchen reno – FULL KITCHEN RENO

A recent kitchen reno – FULL KITCHEN RENO
Our customer wanted to create a new open plan kitchen with a centre island that ran into the lounge area, for their growing family. The old kitchen was tucked in the darker end of the house and the wooden finish kitchen made the area feel darker. We worked with the customer to design and move the kitchen into the main living are where there was more natural light. The customer also wanted the kitchen to be finished mainly in white, with a black mirror glass splashback for contrast. It was also important to the customer that the kitchen was modernised, but also fit with the rest of their home. We ran the kitchen cabinetry to the ceiling to create the feel of more space and finished the coving with a detailed traditional trim. A large deep sink and new tapware to suit was installed in the centre island. The area was finished off by sanding and polishing the wooden floors throughout to match the rest of the home. The kitchen is the heart of the family home – and we were excited to be able to create a open plan, family area for our...
