The New Zealand Gib Shortage

The New Zealand Gib Shortage
Yet another supply shortage is plaguing the New Zealand building sector. Builders across the country are struggling to get their hands on Gib plasterboard, with some expecting to wait as much as 9 months for a shipment of plasterboard. There are reports of a gib black marketing popping up with people reselling gib for upto five times the usual price. With one builder paying over $5,000 for 26 sheets of plasterboard on trademe. First it is important to understand how this shortage started. Aproximatly 95% of plasterboard in New Zealand comes from just one supplier. “GIB” is the brand name this supplier uses for its plasterboard, which has since become synonymous with plasterboard. During the first few covid 19 lockdowns, New Zealand’s sole provider was forced to shut down its factory, ceasing production of gib. This lack of supply caused companies to stockpile on gib causing a shortage for smaller builders without the facilities to store gib long term. Even with production ramping up to 24/7, supply has been unable to meet demand. More people than ever are renovating and building new homes.  So, with one supply shortage after the other how can any NZ renovation be expected to take place? Well, unless your builder has a steady supply of gib you may be out of luck. The earliest one can expect gib to return to the market is July. Otherwise you might find your bathroom renovation may have to be put on hold. So, what can you do right now? If you were planning to start some renovations then this will surely throw a spanner in the...

Can You Remodel a Kitchen for $5000?

Can You Remodel a Kitchen for $5000?
Everyone dreams about that new kitchen renovation. However, the main factor stopping most people is simply the cost. So, what if your budget is tight, what can you achieve? Can you remodel a kitchen for $5000? The short answer is no. Even the most basic kitchen renovations and remodels can cost well over $15,000. With the average remodel costing more than $20,000 it will be tough to achieve anything worthwhile on a tight $5,000 budget. That being said, it doesn’t mean you can’t get away with a few upgrades. Assuming your kitchen is small, a budget of $5,000 could be enough to refresh your kitchen. Keep in mind that with a budget so small there will be considerable limitations, both in scope and quality. To achieve a kitchen renovation on a budget it’s important to plan out what exactly you need and what you are willing to forego. On a budget of $5,000 you may only be able to change a few things. For example, fitting your kitchen with new appliances may be the maximum you can achieve. Instead you could opt for new flooring, bench tops, or splash backs. However you may only be able to choose one. Therefore it is generally worth it to hold out until you can do it right. There is no point throwing money at a kitchen renovation that will leave you with essentially the same kitchen as when you started. If you are interested in a kitchen remodel, give us a call on 0508 2 73668. Our expert team is more than happy to advise you on the ideal budget for your...

Mission Bay Home Renovation Transforms Old Home Into Modern Masterpiece
Mission bay is an interesting suburb to buy a home as many properties are in desperate need of renovation. The trendy suburb has always been a desirable place to build and live. Stylish homes dot the streets and with it comes a sense of culture and uniqueness. However, as the trends come and go, so does the appeal of the homes left behind. This client was eager to move into the suburb for its beaches and easy living, but the only affordable homes on the market were extremely dated. So, the client called Maintain To Profit City East. The team at Maintain To Profit is skilled at turning old unfashionable interiors into sleek modern spaces. The Bathroom The first room to get a major overhaul was the ensuite bathroom. Originally featuring a bath shower combo with an old mouldy curtain, ugly 70s tiling and an olive coloured toilet and sink. This all had to go, as time had rendered these out of fashion features faded and fallen apart. The shower bath combo was kept, by request of the client, but remodelled with marble and a glass door. The walls and floor were all replace with large clean white marble tiles also. No more dirty grout. We installed new lighting, illuminating the space is important for the bathroom. The bathroom was left with a clean look that was easy for the owner to keep that way. Your bathroom should always feel rejuvenating and not disgusting. The Living Area The original living area was obstructed with a wall separating the space in two. We had this removed the wall to open...
